Noah’s Ark

INTRODUCTION

Noah’s Ark Kindergarten was opened in 1973 in the heart of Bryanston. Our school is nestled in a beautiful large leafy garden on our Evangelical Lutheran Church North Rand property with a fully kitted spacious playground and sprawling lawns. Safe parking is accessible for the parents to enter to drop and collect their children. We are a bilingual educational facility focusing on the German and English languages. Children that do not have a German background have an early start learning German as a foreign language through play, song and art.

The children with the teachers have access to the church sanctuary and hall with a stage for theatre productions and celebrations.

As a Christian Kindergarten we operate under the auspices of the Evangelical Lutheran Church North Rand and are represented by the Pastor and the Church Council.

Our facilities cater for two groups which are taught and supervised by a qualified bilingual teacher with the support of an experienced assistant.

Age group 18 months to 3 years – maximum 16 children

Age group 4-5 years – maximum of 20 children

The interaction between the parents and the Kindergarten staff is an important aspect of our educational policy. We place great value in your involvement and co-operation. Occasionally the Kindergarten or the church hosts an event for the benefit of the children and the community. Participation at these events is strongly encouraged.

For every new beginning of the school year, a parent class representative is chosen for each class group. These representatives serve on the Kindergarten committee and help the teacher with keeping an open communication between the parents and the teaching staff and offer support with special occasions and planning of class get togethers.

EDUCATIONAL GOALS

The Kindergarten aims at supporting and enriching the family unit. Our educational goal is to develop every aspect of the child’s life in a warm and nurturing environment. We place more emphasis on the enjoyment of creative activity than on achievement.

We aim to develop the child’s personality and social skills. The bilingual teachers speak German to the children and we actively familiarise the children with the German culture and traditions. Being a Christian Kindergarten, we teach Christian values by means of songs, games, prayers and celebrations.

There are voluntary “intra-murals” added to the program, which take place during the school day, but may be for the parent’s own expense & arrangement.

Once a week the church bell rings and the children attend a short devotion in the church, on the premises.
